Chest Pain
Heart & CirculationHeart attack. Pulmonary embolism. Aortic dissection. Angina. Pericarditis. Possibly a rare parasitic infection.
Muscle strain from poor posture, acid reflux or heartburn, anxiety (very common — anxiety chest pain is real and physically uncomfortable), costochondritis (rib cartilage inflammation from coughing or exercise), or sleeping on your side awkwardly.
🧠 The full picture
The vast majority of chest pain in people under 65 without risk factors is musculoskeletal or GI-related. Heartburn alone accounts for a huge proportion of ER visits for "chest pain." Your chest has a lot of moving parts — ribs, cartilage, muscles, your esophagus running right through it. Most chest sensations are not your heart.
