Frequent Urination

Bladder & Incontinence
What the internet says

Diabetes. Interstitial cystitis. Bladder cancer. Kidney disease. Prostate cancer.

What it probably actually is

You're drinking more fluids than usual. Caffeine and alcohol are diuretics. An overactive bladder (very treatable). Anxiety making you hyperaware of every bladder sensation. Mild UTI (easily treated). Pregnancy. Diuretic medications.

🧠 The full picture

Normal urination is about 6-8 times per day. If you're going more than that but also drinking more, the math checks out. Overactive bladder affects 33 million Americans and is extremely manageable with pelvic floor therapy, behavioral changes, and if needed, medication.

⚠️ When to actually call your doctor

These are real red flags. If any of these apply, don't wait.

  • Pain or burning when you urinate
  • Blood visible in urine
  • Accompanied by extreme thirst and fatigue (diabetes check)
  • Waking up 3+ times per night to urinate
  • Urge is sudden and you can't hold it at all
  • Recent new medication (many cause this)
